Russian Drone Strike on Dnipro Railway Station Kills 14, Dozens Injured Across Ukraine

A jet-powered drone struck a crowded railway platform as passengers waited for trains. Attacks across Ukraine killed at least 20 people on Thursday, according to officials.

At least 14 people were killed and another 14 injured after a Russian drone struck a crowded railway platform in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro on Thursday, October 29, in one of the deadliest attacks on civilians reported in the country in recent weeks.

The drone hit a platform at Dnipro’s main railway station while passengers were waiting to board trains, including a commuter service preparing to depart. Ukraine’s state railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, confirmed that the platform had been struck.

Regional Governor Oleksandr Hanzha said the death toll had risen to 14, with 14 others wounded. Six of the injured were reported to be in serious condition.

Drone Strikes Crowded Railway Platform

According to Ukrainian officials, a jet-powered drone struck the station platform during the daytime attack. The impact damaged the railway area and affected passengers who were present at the time.

Images released by Ukrainian emergency services showed rescue workers attending to victims and damaged passenger trains at the station.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, describing it as horrific and calling for stronger international action against Moscow.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergiy Koretskyi also accused Russian forces of deliberately targeting civilians in public places and residential areas. Russia has repeatedly denied deliberately targeting civilians in its military campaign in Ukraine.

Other Ukrainian Cities Also Hit

The Dnipro attack was part of a wider series of Russian drone and missile strikes across Ukraine on Thursday.

In the northern city of Chernihiv, two teenage girls were killed in a drone attack on a busy central street. At least 23 people were wounded, including four children, according to local officials.

In Kremenchuk, strikes on residential buildings and private properties killed three people and injured 32, the regional governor said.

A separate late-night missile attack in Kyiv killed one person, according to the city’s military administration.

Student Dormitory Hit, Power Supply Disrupted

Another strike in Dnipro hit a student dormitory and caused a fire, regional authorities said.

The attacks also disrupted electricity supplies, with regional Governor Hanzha reporting that approximately 350,000 households in the city had lost power.

The damage to civilian infrastructure has added to the pressure on emergency services and local authorities as the country continues to face repeated aerial attacks.

Attack Comes Amid Limited Local Truce

The latest strikes occurred while a six-day, US-brokered local ceasefire was being observed in parts of the southern Kherson region.

The limited arrangement was intended to facilitate humanitarian assistance to Oleshky, a town under Russian occupation, and allow civilians to leave the affected area.

However, the local truce did not extend to the wider conflict, and attacks continued elsewhere in Ukraine.

The renewed violence comes as diplomatic efforts to revive US-backed negotiations are expected to continue in the coming weeks.

International Response and Civilian Concerns

The attack has renewed concerns over the vulnerability of civilians and public infrastructure, particularly railway stations, residential buildings and transport networks.

Ukrainian officials have urged international partners to maintain pressure on Russia and strengthen support for the country’s air-defence capabilities.

The latest incident also highlights the challenges of sustaining local humanitarian arrangements while military operations continue across other parts of the country.
